The Thrill of the Chase returns to BBC One

The thrill of The Chase returns to BBC One

Category: TV Drama; BBC One

Kay Mellor’s impassioned Sunday night drama, The Chase, returns to BBC One for an extended second series this summer with more sexy, stormy stories from the Yorkshire-based veterinary practice.

The series kicks off just days after Anna (Gaynor Faye) has discovered her husband, Tom’s (Nicholas Gleaves) infidelity with her cousin, Fiona (Heather Peace).

While Anna comes to terms with her new single status, her sister, Sarah (Nicola Stephenson), is getting it together with childhood sweetheart, local farmer, Adrian Huby (Paul Opacic).

Joining The Chase are four new members of the cast.

Rebekah Manning (Rocketman) and Christian Louis Cooke (Where The Heart Is) are Claudie’s (Michelle Holmes) siblings, Paula and Liam.

Claudie and Paula set up a beauty parlour in the vets’ staff room causing mayhem as the battle of pooches and pampering begins, whereas Liam’s arrival from prison raises tension and eyebrows.

Philip Jackson (Little Voice, Poirot) is Fiona’s estranged father, Frank, who brings a myriad of buried family secrets.

And Adam Croasdell (The Project) sets pulses racing as sexy Sebastian Montgomery, brother of farmer William (Guy Henry) and close friend of Adrian Huby.

Meanwhile the practice manager, Deborah (Janet Dibley), is devastated when her husband and senior vet, Rick’s (Reece Dinsdale) relationship with colleague Clare (Sunetra Sarker) becomes public; Margaret (Rachel Davies) continues her struggle to juggle her work, the nurses and the dreaded menopause; and, Matt (Liam Garrigan) is distracted by a new romance.

Series creator Kay Mellor says: “It’s such a thrill to be shooting again in Leeds for the prime Sunday night slot on BBC One and an extended run of 12 episodes.

“Now we can tell even bigger, bolder stories which, I hope, will keep fans guessing and entice new viewers in. We’ve got some fabulous new characters as well as our returning favourites not to mention some very exotic animals!”

The Chase is written by Kay Mellor with additional episodes by Kate O’Riordan, Gaynor Mellor, Andrew Kirk, Kirsty Halton, Pat Smart and Phil Nodding.

The series is produced by Jacinta Peel with directors Clara Glynn, Ian Bevitt and Susan Tully. Kay Mellor and Polly Hill (BBC) are the executive producers.

The series is filmed in HD and shot on location in and around Leeds. The Chase will transmit on BBC One during summer 2007.
