the man in the hills (16/20)

The ever-popular children’s series continues its new run of railway adventures. Based on the original stories written by the Reverend W Awdry, Thomas & Friends invites children into a world of imagination where the exploits of a cheeky little tank engine and his trusty pals reflect all manner of life lessons. This series retains the traditional liveaction animation alongside new CGI effects that make the engines’ mouths move as they talk and allow the human characters to walk around their railway world.

In Monday’s episode, it is Mr Percival’s birthday and Sir Handel is going to tell the story of the Man in the Hills. While picking up a load of presents, Thomas finds a mysterious shape in the side of a hill and decides to reorganise Mr Percival’s party.

Tuesday’s instalment is ‘Thomas Puts the Brakes On’. Thomas has been given the job of delivering specially made blocks for the Sodor River Bridge, but things go awry when his brakes begin to fail…

Wednesday’s show, ‘Percy and the Bandstand’, sees Percy charged with taking Lady Hatt to her surprise party at the new bandstand. However, little realising the purpose of her journey, Lady Hatt instructs the engine to take her elsewhere!

In ‘Push Me, Pull You’ on Thursday, the puppet show has arrived on Sodor and Skarloey is determined to pull the special train. However, his refusal to accept help with the heavy trucks causes chaos across the railway.

And rounding off the week’s programmes on Friday is ‘Best Friends’, in which Thomas and Percy have a falling out when the former decides to keep a secret from his pal.
