Fern Britton quits This Morning

Fern Britton is to leave This Morning at the end of the series.

Fern, who has co-presented the show with Philip Scholfield for the past ten years, will leave the show on the final episode in July before the summer break, which is also her birthday. When the show starts again in September, Philip will be with a new co-presenter.

Speculation has started about who will take over her position, and so far, Ruth Langsford is the favourite for the job. Ruth currently presents This Morning on Fridays, with her partner, Eamonn Holmes. Other presenters tipped for the role are Fiona Philips and Kate Garraway.

Rumours has started stating that Fern was leaving the show after falling-out with Phil, who gets paid much more than her. However, she has denied this, and said that she is leaving to spend more time with her family. Phil has blogged and tweeted on the matter, expressing how sorry he is to see her go.

Fern and Phil, as they are affectionately known by viewers, have been a famous telly pairing because of their funny relationship on air, and aptitude at giving each other the giggles on-air, making featuring some of the more serious stories and issues on This Morning, an interesting challenge. There are many videos on YouTube of the pair, with classic clips of memorable moments and mistakes. They have presented other things together, such as the Celebrity Mr and Mrs Show, for which it has been reported Phil got paid much more too. Fern recently presented the late night slot on Comic Relief with Alan Carr.
