Timothy Spall stars in a powerful new drama for ITV1, Gunrush.

Set against the rising wave of gun crime in Britain this one off thriller sees Timothy Spall (Room with a View, Oliver Twist, The Street) play a father driven to take the law into his own hands after his daughter is shot dead.

He plays Doug Becket, a mild mannered driving instructor, who lives a very ordinary life in suburban London, until his daughter is murdered while they are shopping in a supermarket.

When the police come up against a wall of silence in their hunt for the killer, Doug sets out to track down the only clue to the murderer’s identity – the gun.

Filmed on locations in London this compelling single drama, written by Richard Cottan, follows Doug’s journey from amiable father figure to a man seduced by the power of the gun.

It also stars Deborah Findlay (Cranford, State of Play, Trial and Retribution) as Doug’s wife Jill, David Harewood (The Palace, Ruby in the Smoke, Fat Friends) and Paul Kaye (Strutter, Kingdom, Two Thousand Acres of Sky).

Gunrush is being produced for ITV1 by ITV Studios. The producer is Emma Benson, the director is Richard Clark and the executive producer is ITV Studios’ Controller of Drama Kate Bartlett.

Emma Benson says:
“This film takes us to the heart of the crisis about gun crime in Britain: it explores what it means to be a man in contemporary society. Gunrush follows two intertwined stories about the power of the gun – how desire for it, and the respect it supposedly gives you can consume you, whatever your social status and background.”

Kate Bartlett says:
“Richard Cottan’s script is a powerful piece of drama set against the backdrop of urban city Britain. We are thrilled that Timothy Spall agreed to play the lead, Doug Becket. This is an exciting new drama for ITV Studios.”
