The 'V' force on Engineering Britain's Superweapons

Saturday, August 8 on M4

After the Second World War, Britain was desperate to remain a great power alongside the new superpowers, the United States and the Soviet Union. Successive governments invested millions in an incredible array of weapons, in the hope that they would maintain the nation’s place at the top table. In a short space of time an H-bomb was built and tested; the ‘V’ force, made up of hundreds of jet bombers, came into service; and Blue Streak, an intercontinental ballistic missile system, was designed and built. Engineering Britain’s Superweapons tells the gripping and dramatic story of these new technologies.
