Alexa Chung show... pulled.

It’s On with Alexa Chung… MTV UK’s latest vehicle to promote sarcastic hipsters via a faux-disaffected waif was taken off the air hours before it was due to transmit.

Chung’s US chatshow was due to air but got yanked after an “unforseen” issue over broadcast rights. Yyyyyeeaaaahhhhrrrrriiiiiiight.

The show, It’s On with Alexa Chung, was one of the centrepieces of MTV’s new season of programmes for this autumn in the US when it was unveiled in April.

“Due to unforeseen clearance issues, MTV Networks UK will not now be airing It’s On with Alexa Chung,” said a spokeswoman for MTV UK. “At this time, the show has only been cleared by the distributors for broadcast in the US, and at this stage, we cannot confirm whether the series will eventually air in the UK.”

Or, someone realised that Alexa Chung is one of the most unpopular people to have ever set foot on British screens. Her show with Ben Elton still holds the record for the most amount of swear words I’ve ever uttered in the presence of a programme. Chung also had a show pulled from Channel 4’s schedule at the very last minute also.

I wonder if people who work in TV are getting kicked in their seat by common sense just as Chung shows are about to air with a feeling of “OH MY GOD! WHAT HAVE WE DONE?”

Mercifully, this keeps happening and I’m rather happy with the current state of affairs… if only the same would happen with Fearne Cotton…
