Preeya Kalidas – who plays newlywed Amira in EastEnders – has apparently decided to leave the show in order to pursue a career as a singer.
Despite having been a favourite character on the show since she first appeared just over a year ago, the 29 year old will be leaving over the summer and is already recording her first single.
An EastEnders spokesperson told Digital Spy, “Preeya will be leaving EastEnders later this year but we will not comment on future storylines as we don’t want to spoil the surprise for viewers.”
And another EastEnders source added, “Preeya’s exit is currently being planned and it’s bound to be explosive, but what’s not known is if she’ll be leaving Albert Square alone – or with Syed.”
There’ll all off aren’t they!! There’ll be nobody left at this rate!
However, one cast member of E20 is about to take up a role on the regular show; 20 year old Bunmi Mojekwu, who plays Mercy Olubunmi in E20 apparently “impressed” the show’s bosses so much, they’ve snapped her up for the main show.
The show’s executive producer Diederick Santer has told the PA, “I’m pleased to announce that Bunmi will be following her E20 colleagues into EastEnders later this year.
“When I saw the completed episodes of E20 I knew I wanted Mercy in the big show too. Mercy’s also been a huge hit with E20 viewers – she’s funny, warm, sensitive and rather mysterious.
“I’m delighted Bunmi will be bringing those qualities to the wider EastEnders audience.”
