Living TV to show Jade Goody documentary

Jade Goody has two lasting legacies. One is that she’s kept desperately unfunny people in jokes. The second is that she’s a lesson in human cruelty. The glee and scourn that greeted her untimely death was staggering.

Regardless of whether she was a justifiable celebrity with anything to offer the world, is another debate altogether… but generally, I don’t think the death of a young mother should be greeted with jeers.

Of course, making matters worse and forcing people into choosing sides is the media scrum that still surrounds her memory. Sympathisers become devotees and haters become something akin to pissing directly onto someone’s grave.

Another show is imminent which will no doubt have equal fawning and bile (let’s not forget those who will simply shrug).

Living has announced plans to screen a new documentary about Goody.

The 90-minute show, titled Jade: A Year Without Her, will coincide with the anniversary of the her death. The one-off special takes a look at her life from her rise to fame through to her cancer battle, which she lost in March last year.

There’ll be interviews with her mother Jackiey Budden, former lover Jeff Brazier and widow Jack Tweed, as well as those who helped her with her wedding to Tweed.

“There hasn’t been a day in this year without her that I haven’t thought about Jade and her extraordinary courage,” said Living’s Claudia Rosencrantz. “I often think about what a unique character she was, and this new film captures every aspect of what made her so special.

“The most heartbreaking thing is that cervical cancer is both preventable and curable, and we’re honouring Jade’s memory by making sure that as many young women as possible understand how they can protect themselves.”

Jade: A Year Without Her is scheduled to air Sunday, March 21 at 9pm on Living.
