Sky1 launching rival musical talent show

Sky1 is launching a rival talent show to compete with ITV’s X-Factor and Britain’s Got Talent.

Must Be The Music is the brand new concept that the network hopes will de-throne its rival’s successful formats.

Sky1 is promising “a competition with a unique edge” for the summer, and will rely on differentiation as the draw-card for the new reality singing show.

The winner of Must Be The Music will not be locked into a record deal and representation upon victory, instead the network will give creative support and a cash boost of £100,000 along with the chance to put on a show at one of the UK’s premier live music venues.

Sky1 is keeping the show broad, calling for anyone with musical talent to apply.

“Any age, any style — this show is about a passion for music and a desire to perform — whether you are a bedroom rapper, a beatboxer, a gospel choir or a Bhangra group,” Sky said.

“At last here’s a chance for the huge variety of unrepresented new talent to showcase real music and grow as an artist both creatively and financially,” Sky’s head of entertainment Duncan Gray adds.

Audition for the new show will be held around the UK in May.
