Danielle Hope has taken out the Over The Rainbow title after beating Sophie Evans in the finale.
The 18-year-old will play Dorothy in Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber’s upcoming West End production of The Wizard of Oz after edging finalist Sophie Evans in the finale episode of the BBC One show.
After weeks of competition, Hope defeated 10 other hopefuls to take the coveted spot in the production, impressing the judges along the way.
Both finalists were praised for their renditions of ‘Over The Rainbow’ in the finale, as well as Hope’s ‘Mambo Italiano’ and Evan’s ‘Reflection’ but ultimately Hope proved more popular for those voting at home.
“I really, really don’t think a thank you is enough,” Hope said after her win, “For the amazing public and everyone who comes to support us every week and the girls. Thank you and it comes from [the heart] and we all [thank you] for this amazing opportunity.”
Lord Webber commented: “We all are. The nation hasn’t got it wrong yet. My goodness me, you can act from the soul, and that’s very, very special.”
Joining Hope in the 2011 production will be the winner of the search for Toto, Dangerous Dave. The miniature schnauzer was selected from the finalists to play the role of Dorothy’s beloved pet.
