ITV1 announces Daybreak onscreen editorial team

ITV1’s Daybreak today announces a new onscreen editorial team set to provide viewers with a fantastic launch to the ITV day, alongside ADRIAN CHILES and CHRISTINE BLEAKLEY.

Part of ITV’s ongoing strategy to renew and refresh its programming, Daybreak will come from new state of the art studios from September.

KATE GARRAWAY will be Daybreak’s Entertainment Editor, covering the major stories in the world of show-business and culture. As well as being the anchor for entertainment news from the studio, Kate will conduct some of the biggest A-list star interviews and cover the exclusive events in the entertainment world’s calendar.  Joining Kate will be  STEVE HARGRAVE as Entertainment Correspondent.

Kate Garraway said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to spread my wings in an exciting new role. Show-business is big business and Daybreak will be the place for all the big interviews and stories.”

JOHN STAPLETON will be Special Correspondent, delivering exclusive must – see interviews and investigations; RICHARD GAISFORD will be Chief Correspondent; DR HILARY JONES will be Health Editor; and GRAINNE SEOIGE will join Daybreak as Features Editor.

Daybreak’s team of special correspondents and editors will be tasked with setting the day’s agenda; delivering reputation building news and distinctive, credible journalism; engaging entertainment content, major exclusive interviews; as well as eye-catching consumer items, plus health, sport, human interest and lifestyle features.

As part of the transition Carla Romano and Richard Arnold have decided that they will not be part of the Daybreak team moving forward.

Carla said: “I can honestly say that the last ten years at GMTV have been like a rollercoaster…exciting, scary, hilarious and unpredictable. But most of all never dull. Here in LA I have interviewed and got to know some of the world’s biggest stars, in fact I think I’ve managed to get through all of them!  But Hollywood has become my home and, given my personal ties here, this is where I need to be at the moment.  It is time to start a new chapter and to explore opportunities on both sides of the Atlantic. I wish GMTV all the best in the future and hope that it continues to be the best that it is. “

Richard said:  “I am very happy to take a break from getting up every day at the crack of the sparrows cough! Having said that it has been a craic every day for ten years and I very much look forward to the exciting projects ahead. “

Director of Factual, Daytime and GMTV, Alison Sharman said:

“DAYBREAK plays a key part in ITV’s ongoing transformation and reflects the fact that creative renewal lies at the heart of our schedule, which is being modernised and improved under Peter Fincham.”

“Since acquiring GMTV we have carried out a thorough review and set out to transform and significantly invest in a business that had been lagging behind its competitors in recent years. Change, both on and off screen, is an essential part of the process in our bid to reclaim the top breakfast show spot.”

“As we approach the next stage of this transformational journey our newly confirmed team of special correspondents and editors will set the agenda for the nation each and every morning alongside Christine and Adrian – who will be the lynchpins of DAYBREAK with their unique and brilliant partnership.”

“Carla and Richard have been a vital part of the presentation team and I would like to thank them for the great contribution they have made to the show. I wish them good luck with the new projects they will be taking on.”
