Matt Smith to quit Doctor Who?

Rumours are flying around saying that Matt Smith is going to jack-in his role in Doctor Who… and he could be doing it as soon as next year.

Currently filming the Christmas special, Smith is hoping to crack Hollywood by landing more movie roles.

Of course this means that, in recent years, the Doctor has had to regenerate with a lot more frequency than previous outings.

“Matt plans to quit after the next series,” a friend told the paper.

“He is eager to try new things and thinks Hollywood beckons.”

A BBC spokesperson added: “Matt is filming the Christmas special and then goes on to film the second series. Beyond that, the BBC and Matt won’t speculate on things.”

That said, recently, Smith noted that he wasn’t going to “give it up any time soon”, cheekily saying that he would be happy to continue in the role for “50 million years”.

What do you think? Can he win round fans like Tennant did?
