Second season imminent for Sherlock

New series Sherlock is said to be on the verge of gaining a second season according to the BBC.

After proving a winner in the ratings when it debuted last Sunday, the BBC has pushed ahead plans to renew the series.

BBC head of drama Ben Stephenson said in a statement: “We’d like to do more. But if we do, they won’t air for at least a year. Drama takes at least a year to get made and Steven is also really busy with Doctor Who.”

Penned by Doctor Who scribe Steven Moffat, Sherlock debuted to 7.5 million viewers on BBC One and was lauded by critics.

The second episode entitled The Blind Banker screens this Sunday at 8:30pm.
