Top of the Pops was once the definitive music chart show that everyone watched on a Friday night. Who can forget their opening line, “It’s Friday night, it’s 7.30, it’s Top of the Pops.”
Rumours are circling that the show, which was cancelled by the BBC in 2006, is to be brought back to our screens on Channel Five.
Owner of The Daily Express newspaper, Richard Desmond, is currently in talks to buy and revamp the channel and has reportedly told colleagues of his wishes to revive the show.
The BBC do however still own the rights to the format of the show and they do still produce special Christmas and New Year editions of the show.
