30 Years of An Audience With

Saturday, 7 August 2010, 9:20PM – 10:20PM on ITV1

30 Years of An Audience With…gives viewers the definitive history behind the legendary ITV entertainment series, relives all the best moments and hears how they came about from the stars who captivated TV audiences over the years.

An Audience With… has showcased momentous performances by some of the best-loved talent in the world including The Bee Gees, Lionel Richie, Take That, Ken Dodd, Victoria Wood, Shirley Bassey, Joan Rivers and Al Murray. Throughout this series we’re celebrating the exceptional talent and wonderful performances given by our greatest entertainers.

In this fourth show we look back at the unforgettable performances of Dame Shirley Bassey, Take That, Sir Cliff Richard, Jackie Mason and Jimmy Tarbuck with revealing interviews from Jackie Mason and Jimmy Tarbuck.

We look back at the performance from singer Dame Shirley Bassey who had problems with a troublesome earring which kept falling off at a particularly dramatic point in one of her songs.

We’ll hear how Take That were hosts of the first Audience With to be transmitted live in 2006. The boys were reunited with Lulu for Relight My Fire to the delight of the celebrity audience and also had to deal with comedian Peter Kay whose ad-libbing had producers worried whether the show would finish on time!

We’ll recall how Sir Cliff Richard gave a fantastic performance that spanned his career from the classics of Devil Woman and Move It to the hot off the press release of Millennium Prayer. Millennium Prayer was so new Sir Cliff hadn’t even produced a video for the song, but found time during a break from recording his Audience With to record the video in the studio green room.

American stand-up comedian Jackie Mason brought unique style of humour to the stage back in 1990. He even put Bruce Forsyth through his paces by pretending not to know who he and Barry Humphries were!

And we’ll look back at comedian Jimmy Tarbuck who was about his Audience With but the presence of his celebrity friends in the audience put him at ease. He shared tales of his early days in Liverpool, being at school with the Beatles, and ended with a song and a backing band made up of musical legends including Justin Hayward, Hank Marvin, Kenny Jones, John Lodge and Rick Wakeman.

30 Years of An Audience with… is commissioned for ITV by John Kaye Cooper, Controller of Entertainment at ITV, is executive produced by Mark Robinson and Sumi Connock and series produced by Vicky Thomas.
