Benedict Cumberbatch turned down Doctor Who role

Apart from having an excitingly English name, Benedict Cumberbatch is currently a busy boy. He’s the star of the new BBC series, Sherlock.

As soon as we lay eyes on him and saw the way he went about his business, it was clear who his inspiration was.

It seems that, as Sherlock, he’s essentially been asked to play the role as if he was the Doctor from Doctor Who.

This, naturally, saw us thinking that perhaps, he could be a future Doctor. It makes a lot of sense.

However, he reportedly turned down the chance to play the lead role in Doctor Who according to D:S.

That’s not to say he’s not a fan of the show. Apparently, he will be appearing in future episodes of the long-running sci-fi thingy.

According to The Sun, Cumberbatch was in the frame to replace David Tennant and spoke to the former Whovian about the opportunity but decided not to pursue the role, which of course, was given to Matt Smith.

Cumberbatch said: “David and I talked about it but I thought it would have to be radically different. “And anyway I didn’t really like the whole package – being on school lunchboxes.”

How very thespy of you!
