Wonders of the world are unimpressive

The Ricky Gervais Show made Karl Pilkington a household name around the world with even the accolade of having his face graffited onto a garage door in Augusta, Georgia.

Tonight, he’s about to get even more famous as Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant send their pal around the world to check out the most famous wonders of the world.

Karl is sent to the China, India, Peru and Jordan but is left feeling, well, unimpressed with claims that Brazil’s statue of Christ the Redeemer looked like TV football pundit Jimmy Hill and that Mexico’s ancient Chichen Itza had a “bungalow” above it.

The book to accompany the series is out today and this is what Karl has to say about the famous taj Mahal:

“It’s weird how it is classed as one of the modern wonders of the world. You wouldn’t think so by the surroundings.

If it was on one of those property programmes, the potential buyers would say, ‘If you could pick it up and put it somewhere nicer, we’d buy it.’

It really shouldn’t have been built here.

As soon as we got in to the Taj Mahal complex we were greeted by another queue.

This time it was to get on the Princess Diana bench.

This is where Diana had her photo taken when she was having her problems with Charlie.

Everyone said this is why she looked so miserable, but, to be honest, I think she was just sick of being in India.

It does have that effect on you. If you’re having a low moment in your life, India isn’t a great place to come to try and get over it.

I’d have suggested Center Parcs to Diana over this place.”

Sounds hilarious!  To see if it is, check out An Idiot Abroad tonight on Sky1 and Sky1 HD at 9pm.
