Monday 6 December, 10:00pm on Fiver

The fascinating documentary following the everyday life of former Spice Girl Mel B continues. This week, Mel tries her hand at writing and faces trouble when she meets her daughter’s friend and her mother. Since bursting onto the world stage as one fifth of the hugely popular group Spice Girls, Melanie Brown, AKA ‘Scary Spice’, has had a fascinating decade-long career. Over the last ten years, Mel B has had a number of hit singles, been involved in musical collaborations with such superstars as Timbaland and Missy Elliott and published a wildly successful autobiography. Often under the glare of public scrutiny, Mel has also embarked on a number of high-profile romances, including a marriage to her backing dancer Jimmy Gulzar, which resulted in the birth of her first daughter Phoenix Chi. Long-term relationships with actors Max Beesley and Eddie Murphy have also been the subject of widespread tabloid interest, especially the bitter paternity battle with Murphy over Mel’s second daughter Angel Iris. Recently, the singer’s life has been less turbulent as she has settled into married life with her current partner Stephen Belafonte. ‘Mel B: It’s a Scary World’ follows Mel as she deals with her daily life as an entertainer, businesswoman, wife and mother. By providing an access-all-areas glimpse into the world of the popular entertainer, the series illustrates the glitz and glamour of Mel’s business life alongside the trials and tribulations faced by a busy working mum raising two children. In this instalment, Mel is approached to write a book, but is initially not sure what to write about. Tension then arises when she and Stephen try to arrange a date for two friends, which ultimately results in Mel penning a relationship book. Meanwhile, Mel hosts a play date with Angel’s friend and her mother. Unfortunately, the event does not go quite as planned…
