The Gadget Show

Monday 13 December, 8:00pm on Five

Jon Bentley, Suzi Perry, Ortis Deley, Jason Bradbury and Pollyanna Woodward investigate the latest technological innovations. In this episode, Jason and Ortis race up and down a Swiss mountain to test the latest winter sports gear. Elsewhere, Jon and Polly make their own calendar, and Suzi gives the lowdown on her top five apps. This week, Jason and Ortis hit the snowy slopes of Switzerland for an action-packed winter challenge. In the process, the boys will test the very latest in hi-tech clothing, navigation gadgets and snow transport. The challenge begins at the very top of Mount Titlis in the ski resort of Engelberg. The presenters’ first task is to race to the foot of the mountain, clad only in their thermal underwear. In a bid to keep them on track – and to spare their blushes as they zip through the ski village – Jason and Ortis are kitted out with the latest handheld navigation technology. However, once the boys reach the foot of the mountain, they must layer up in the latest outdoor clothing and start making their ascent back to the summit. The challenge ends with another ride back down, only this time with the help of a range of sledges, snowboards and bikes. Elsewhere in this episode, Jon and Pollyanna investigate the growing popularity of online photo-publishing services. In a bid to discover which brand offers the best value product, the pair set about snapping and uploading pictures for their very own 2011 calendar. Meanwhile, Ortis visits three pioneering British companies to hear all about some new technology ideas that could soon become commonplace. Along the way Ortis learns about a clever new way to charge electric cars, an innovative redesign of the humble computer mouse and a unique search engine that aims to turn the hunt for information into a form of entertainment. Finally, Suzi rounds off a top year for mobile computing with her rundown of the top five apps.
