Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?

Thursday, 23 December 2010, 9:00PM – 10:15PM

Celebrity Live Edition

This year’s New Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Christmas Special, is a Christmas special with a difference. For the first time ever on Who Wants to be a Millionaire viewers at home will have a chance to win big money and it will all be happening live.

Joining Chris Tarrant for a special festive edition of Britain’s most popular game show will be a soon-to-be-unveiled, all-star, line-up of celebrities who will play LIVE against the clock for the first time, in an attempt to win money for their favourite charities.

And there’s a further surprise in store… not only will the celebrities be playing to win money for charity, they will also be playing for the audience at home. The money the celebrity pair wins will be shared 50/50 between the charity… and a lucky viewer!

At the start of each celebrity game a phone number and the website for the free route of entry will appear on the TV screen. Viewers will then have a set amount of time to phone in and at the end of the game one viewer will be randomly selected.

They will be put through to the studio where Chris Tarrant will ask them one more question. They must answer within a set amount of time. Get it right and they win the cash. Get it wrong and the chance passes to the next viewer on the line, until someone answers correctly.

This year’s New Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Christmas Special is 75 minutes long, so there will be an opportunity for two home viewer games, giving an extra chance to play and win some money, just in time to brighten up Christmas!

Commenting, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? host, Chris Tarrant, said:

“This Xmas Special is bound to be lots of fun… and unpredictable! It will be packed with surprise appearances from former winners and revelations from celebrity guests with all the drama created by playing Britain’s best loved game not only against the clock… but on live TV too! The live element will add bags of tension. It’s difficult enough to perform in the Hot Seat without the pressure of knowing that you are also playing for millions of viewers!”

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? produced and distributed by Sony Pictures Television, originally launched in the UK in 1998 and its popularity quickly spread around the world. Twelve years on, the format has been sold in 120 countries, producing dozens of millionaires around the globe.
