The fascinating documentary series following the everyday life of former Spice Girl Mel B continues. This week, Mel campaigns against California’s controversial Proposition 8 ruling, which outlawed same-sex marriages. She also faces a dilemma regarding her stylist. Since bursting onto the world stage as one fifth of the hugely popular group Spice Girls, Melanie Brown, AKA ‘Scary Spice’, has had a fascinating decade-long career. Over the last ten years, Mel B has had a number of hit singles, been involved in musical collaborations with such superstars as Timbaland and Missy Elliott and published a wildly successful autobiography. Often under the glare of public scrutiny, Mel has also embarked on a number of high-profile romances, including a marriage to her backing dancer Jimmy Gulzar, which resulted in the birth of her first daughter Phoenix Chi. Long-term relationships with actors Max Beesley and Eddie Murphy have also been the subject of widespread tabloid interest, especially the bitter paternity battle with Murphy over Mel’s second daughter Angel Iris. Recently, the singer’s life has been less turbulent as she has settled into married life with her current partner Stephen Belafonte. ‘Mel B: It’s a Scary World’ follows Mel as she deals with her daily life as an entertainer, wife and mother. In this instalment, Mel has to make a tough decision between her business and her beliefs when she agrees to campaign in favour of samesex couples, then questions whether to keep Blair on as her stylist when he fails to show up for an important photoshoot.
