BGT runner-up Ronan Parke has reportedly signed a record deal with Sony Records, even though winner Jai McDowall has yet to secure any such deal. Here’s the story from The Sun…
RONAN Parke may have lost the Britain’s Got Talent battle but he’s won the war. Despite finishing second, the 12-year-old has been handed a deal by Sony Records after impressing the label during his controversial stint on the show.
It’s a joint deal between Simon Cowell’s SyCo label and another of the major label’s departments – similar to those signed by Olly Murs and Matt Cardle.
A source said: “Simon is increasingly busy in the US so it makes sense for another of Sony’s labels to work on the Ronan Parke project too.
“It’s still to be decided exactly which imprint will partner with SyCo but bosses are sure he’ll be a success.
So far there is no sign of BGT winner Jai McDowall getting a contract.”
A statement from SyCo last night confirmed: “The deal allows Ronan to have Syco’s involvement while signing with the Sony team that most suits his musical direction. Simon will remain completely involved.”
The signing means Ronan has started his journey to being a British version of Justin Bieber – although hopefully with less of an ego.
All major labels have been clamouring to replicate the success of the Canadian. EMI have got Brighton teen Conor Maynard who will be launched later this year after getting millions of hits on YouTube.
Teenage girls will have to pick a side pretty soon.
