Daybreak have enlisted the help of This Morning executive Karl Newton in a bid to rescue the show.
Newton has been backed to take over the show full-time seeing as he has been so successful on This Morning since 2009. His time on This Morning has seen the launch of special weekend shows and also an extension of the show’s summer run.
He will work with ITV’s daytime and lifestyle creative director Fiona Keenaghan and it is hoped he can revive the show with his “populist touch.”
Despite its hype and snaring two of it’s rival channel’s main presenters, the show has not performed well and has failed to meet the success of its predecessor GMTV.
Presenters Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley have had their duties reduced from 5 days a week to four while editor Ian Rumsey announced he was leaving the show last month.
