Reality TV News: One Direction lads left "shaken" by screaming mob in America

Plus, The Voice loses yet more viewers and pop stars refuse to sing duets in the final

There have been murmurings of criticism toward Simon Cowell recently for how hard he’s working X Factor boy band One Direction, and Rolling Stone magazine’s editor Andy Greene recently claimed the lads are being “worked like dogs”.

And yesterday, the hard working boys, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles and Zayn Malik were said to be “shaken” after a mob of screaming fans pulled their clothes and pushed them around as they arrived at a hotel in New York.

Following the frightening incident, Liam tweeted, “That wasn’t even funny. This is a complete joke… ridic… Day off, wana chill (sic)”.

And Niall Horan’s dad Bobby told the Daily Star that his son finds he gets claustrophobic when he has to walk through crowds.

He said, “There are hordes of young girls around him. He doesn’t have any space around him.

“He says it can be frightening.”

In other news, the BBC must be feeling a bit frightened right about now too, given that the viewing figures for The Voice have continued their decline over the weekend.

And they must be particularly miffed that having Cheryl Cole perform her new track Call My Name failed to pull in viewers…

The show, which cost around £22million to stage, was watched by just 5.1million viewers on Saturday, which, when compared to the 11.8million who tuned in to the show’s debut, is quite a dramatic slump.

And more embarrassing for the Beeb is that fact that a whopping 9.7million of us tuned in to see Engelbert Humperdinck’s epic fail at the Eurovision Song Contest.

A show insider said, “There is no beating around the bush here — The Voice ratings are a dire embarrassment.

“Obviously the weather has played a big part, but the truth is fans just haven’t connected with the judges or the acts.

“Whoever wins the show probably won’t even have a career.”

And in a further anxiety causing incident, a number of the stars of the music world have refused to make appearances in the show’s final.

The Star reports that the show’s bosses asked Justin Bieber, Adele, Flo Rida, Kelly Clarkson and David Guetta to perform duets with the finalists, and they all refused.

Bo was reportedly “gutted” to hear that Adele wouldn’t be at the final. She said, “I really wanted to sing with her.”

As fans of The Voice US will know, top pop stars sang with the finalists, however, a BBC spokesperson said, “The Voice format has been adapted for UK audiences. We never planned to have other artist duets for the final.”

Sure… right.
