Was Coronation Street’s Big Week epic or an epic fail?

Corrie bosses gave this week’s episodes the rather unimaginative moniker of Big Week, and now it’s over, I’m still dithering as to whether it was epic or an epic fail…

However, on balance, given I wasn’t gagging for the next installment, I’m erring more on the side of the latter right now.

And I think the reason for that is because we all knew what was coming – Tina’s coma, Terry’s exit and Lesley’s demise – well in advance because of spoilers…

Now, the irony is that much of my work is based on bringing you, dear reader, as many spoilers as possible, because sometimes, knowing what’s about to happen actually enhances the excitement; we’re eagerly awaiting THE big moment that we know is coming.

But despite all the nightly what’s-coming-next trailers, and the hype, it fell just a tad flat when it all played out…

And last night, when Tommy gave Terry a choice of keeping the £9k or having a relationship with his son, I could’ve slapped my TV in the face at Tommy’s stupidity when he let Terry leave with the money! The pillock.

So now, Tommy’s not only in debt to Tyrone, he’s also in debt to Rick the loan shark, and the aftermath of that is going to be a nightmare for the poor, but incredibly friggin’ stupid, mechanic.

As to Lesley’s exit courtesy of a wet toaster, I couldn’t quite buy into the fact that Eileen would’ve left Lesley alone…

Yes, I get that she was pee’d off that Lesley had smacked her in the face, so she felt she had to get away, but why wouldn’t she have immediately called Paul? And when Jason turned up to comfort his mum on the bench outside the salon, did it not occur to either of them that someone should go check on Lesley?

And even before that drama, once Paul decided he had to cut his matrimonial ties with Lesley, and would put her back in the care home, surely taking her back would’ve been the first job on that list?

But as Lesley met her shocking end – see what I there? Seriously, I’m well underpaid – Paul was at a solicitor’s getting his divorce underway, and once again leaving Lesley with Eileen who’d already told him she couldn’t cope with the whole hoo-hah already.

So, with gaping plot holes and few, if any surprises, Corrie’s Big Week was more of a Medium Sized Week for me.

What did you think of it?

While you’re deciding, here are a couple of reminders of this week’s action…
