2011 spending by British broadcasters down on previous year

Spending on programming by BBC, ITV, Channel 4 ad Channel 5 was down 8 per cent last year compared to 2010.

Ofcom’s Public Service Broadcasting Annual Report 2012 confirms that over the past five years there has been a steady downward trend in spending from UK broadcasters.

Spending across BBC One, BBC Two, ITV1, Channel 4, Channel 5 and the BBC digital channels fell to £2.8 billion in 2011.

The largest percentage fall came from BBC One, with spending falling 16 per cent to £719 million.

Channel 5 posted the largest percentage increase in spending, up 45 per cent to £95 million.
