Former Woman’s Hour presenter Sue MacGregor has criticised the beeb’s coverage of the Thames Pageant, saying she was disappointed with their offering.
“I was hugely disappointed with the BBC coverage of the pageant,” MacGregor told The Daily Telegraph.
“Nobody involved seemed to know what it actually was that the audience wanted to know about – the history of the river and the historical significance of the flotilla, for example.
“Everyone was utterly under-prepared. I recall a time when, for anything like that, we were presented with stacks of dossiers to research and we had hours upon hours of homework – that, as it should be, was what was expected of us.”
MacGregor says that while she has nothing against celebrity presenters, she didn’t think it quite worked on the day.
“I have nothing against celebrities in the right context. I believe there is a time and a place for them. However, the time and place for them was definitely not last weekend,” she said.
