Plus, Nikhil’s certain his Emmerdale baby is a boy and see EastEnders newbie David Witts in on-set video
We’ll start today’s soapy news round up over in Weatherfield, where of course, Leanne Barlow is about to reignite her relationship with restaurateur Nick Tilsley, to whom she was once married.
The pair of course also had an affair in 2010, just before Leanne was to marry Peter Barlow, but he of course found out about the affair and called the wedding off.
However, after the devastating tram crash, when Peter thought he was dying, he wed Leanne in the hospital. But they are of course now separated and Peter is with Carla.
But as mentioned, Leanne and Nick are to become an item once again, however, as Jane Danson who plays Leanne has revealed, the future is far from settled for her character.
Speaking to the Sun, Jane said of Leanne, “Well, after everything that’s happened with Simon and Peter, Leanne is just craving stability and a normal family life – and I think she sees this as an opportunity to get that.
“Nick has got his business, he’s got a secure place to live, and he loves her…
“On paper, it’s all perfect. But the question is whether Leanne is just settling for him, or whether she actually loves him in return.
“That’s going to be the main issue as they move forward.
“When Nick confesses his undying love for Leanne in the episodes coming up, she’s the one in control.
“She’s got to decide whether this is best for Simon and whether Nick can provide the continuity and family life that she’s craving.
“In the end, she decides that he can and it would be a good idea.”
Jane added, “The most heartbreaking thing for Peter is that he’s seeing his son live with his arch-enemy.
“It’s like a red rag to a bull for Peter. He’s quite volatile at the best of times, but this is a step too far for him and he’s not happy at all.
“Once again, there’s a massive reaction from Peter in a really public situation.
“Last time, it was at the wedding when he told everybody about Leanne and Nick’s affair.
“This time, he goes mad at Simon’s birthday party and it’s all a bit dramatic.”
We’ll see those scenes air in the next week or so.
Over to Emmerdale now, and Rik Makarem, who plays factory boss Nikhil Sharma, has revealed that when his character learns that his girlfriend Gennie Walker is pregnant, he’ll become convinced she’s carrying a baby boy…
However, it seems even that will irritate Gennie, but there, pretty much everything does!
Speaking to What’s On TV, Rik said, “I don’t think they know the sex [of the baby] but Nikhil is subconsciously stating that it’s a boy, much to Gennie’s frustration.”
He added, “There’s lots of cute moments with regards to discussions about boys’ and girls’ names, and that kind of thing.”
And Rik, who has no plans to become a dad in real life right now, added that he’s finding it odd to play the role of an expectant father.
He said, “It’s kind of strange to go through that process, reading the baby names and choosing out outfits… Oh dear!”
It’s expected that Gennie and Nikhil’s baby will make a dramatic arrival during the show’s anniversary episodes this October.
Finally today it’s over to EastEnders, where newcomer David Witts has made an on-set video talking about landing the role of Joey Branning, and how he’s settling in with the rest of the cast.
David, who made his debut in last night’s episode, said, “I’m just looking forward to getting on screen now, really.
“While I’m on the train going home, that’s when everyone’s going to be watching it – which is gutting, really, but I’ll watch it later!
“I’ll hate it, I think. That’s the main thing, I’ll absolutely hate it.
“It’s like anything – even if you just see yourself on a family video tape, you always hate yourself. You hate how you sound and how you talk and things like that.
”So I will hate it, but hopefully not everyone else who watches it will hate it. Otherwise that would probably mean me getting the sack!”
