We’ll begin today’s look at soap spoilers over on EastEnders, where Jay Mitchell is about to propose to his teenaged girlfriend Abi Branning when he finds out that she’s won a scholarship to study in Costa Rica!
Poor Jay’s terrified that Abi will go and leave him in Walford, so in a desperate bid to give her a good reason to stay, he buys her an engagement ring and begs her to become his wife.
However, Abi’s shocked by the proposal, and she apparently doesn’t react in the way Jay hoped she would.
A show insider told the Daily Star, “Jay has been trying his best to hold it together ever since he saw his step-brother Ben killing Heather.
“And it’s only been Abi and their relationship that has kept him from going over the edge.
“He’s been able to be normal around her and live his life as best as he can, so the thought of her going off to study fills him with dread.
“He’s happy for her because it’s an amazing opportunity but he doesn’t want to lose her…
“What spurs him into action is a conversation he has with Max about never giving up when you want something so badly.
“They are both young and very different but Jay is determined not to lose her.
“He hopes that she will agree to marry him but everyone will have to wait to see what her answer is going to be.”
We’ll find out if she accepts or not a week on Thursday.
Over to Coronation Street now, and a near tragedy is set to rock some of the Street’s residents into making life changing decisions about those they love…
The drama begins when a distraught Simon Barlow – who is of course at the centre of a custody battle between his dad Peter and step-mum Leanne – discovering a bottle of wine that Carla’s hidden in the flat she shares with Peter and Simon.
And of course, Simon has seen his dad, and Carla, turning to booze umpteen times when their problems get 
overwhelming, so with the logic of a child, he does likewise and downs the booze.
While he’s doing that – as he’s hiding in a cupboard – his dad and most of the Street are out looking for him, believing that he’s gone missing.
However, back in the flat, Simon’s soon unconscious, and when a terrified Peter finally discovers his son, he rushes him to hospital, where he has to answer some awkward questions about how and why his little son drank a potentially fatal amount of alcohol.
A show insider said, “Simon has become more and more disruptive these last few weeks and Peter is struggling to cope.
“With Simon out of it from the booze, it doesn’t take long for social services to get involved.
“Leanne stays by Simon’s hospital bed and Peter finally sees that all he’s needed these last few months is for his mum to still be in his life.
“It’s going to test his relationship with Carla. They’ve been through so much but Simon can’t stand her and has done everything to destroy their relationship.”

Finally, it’s over to Emmerdale where Cameron Murray and Chas Dingle have managed to get away from the village for a dirty weekend in a hotel.
However, when Cameron tells Chas that he has to call his pregnant girlfriend Debbie Dingle – or she’ll wonder where he is and what he’s up to – she has to bite her tongue when Cameron tells Debbie he loves her.
Chas is of course in love with Cameron, but when she hears what he says to Debbie, she realizes she can’t go on being the other woman indefinitely.
Of the storyline, an Emmerdale insider said, “Chas thought that with just the two of them away from the village they’d be able to spend the time in their own little bubble.
“But the enormity of the situation really hits home. She’s really got it bad for Cameron and it’s only going to end in disaster for her.
“There will be no one in the village who will understand what Chas has been doing.”
