In other Emmerdale news – and as you will of course have read above – Rachel Breckle is pregnant with Jai Sharma’s baby, and today, Gemma Oaten, who of course plays Rachel, has told the PA a little more about the storyline.
She began by explaining that initially, Rachel and Jai agree that she should have a termination, however, things take an unexpected turn when Jai changes his mind.
Of that, Gemma said, “Jai comes as Rachel’s about to get in the taxi to the clinic. She’s already starting to think, ‘Do I really want to get rid of this baby?’
“She’s starting to bond, she’s starting to feel maternal, and she’s starting to have a really heart-breaking decision in her mind, but ultimately she thinks, ‘I can’t go through with it because I can’t bring up this baby.’
“And then Jai comes and stops her before she gets into the taxi. It’s just this big struggle of what’s going to happen next.”
Gemma went on to say that Jai desperately wants to be a father, especially after losing daughter Mia in a car crash, but Rachel wants Jai to tell his wife Charity the truth.
Gemma said, “There are two people here, they’ve done something that is so wrong but without pre-empting it.
“Sometimes people make mistakes in life and now they’ve got to cope with the consequences.
“Jai has the background of losing Mia, he wants a child desperately and Charity won’t give it to him.
“Rachel is starting to feel bonding with the baby already. It’s not as black and white as people think.
“Rachel wants Jai to tell Charity and he says he will, but we’ll have to wait and see…”
