Keith Lemon cleared of any wrongdoing in puppy giveaway

Keith Lemon’s LemondAid has been cleared of any wrongdoing by Ofcom over a puppy giveaway.

237 complaints were received by Ofcom after Lemon’s show offered puppies as a prize, with the complaints stating that the series had shown a bad attitude towards animal welfare and pet ownership.

However, Ofcom was happy that ITV had taken a number of “very extensive measures” to ensure the welfare of the dogs offered in the competition.

ITV said that they had contacted the families involved in the competition to ensure they were actually interested and considering getting a dog as a pet.

An independent vet checked whether the families were capable of caring for the dog but these checks were not mentioned on the show as “this was not editorially appropriate in an essentially light-hearted entertainment item of this kind”.
