Nathan James

NAME: Nathan James
AGE: 23
OCCUPATION: Singer/Performer
FROM: Berkshire

Background:

Nathan grew up in Reading with his parents and four siblings and has always been the only one in the family to show an interest in performing. Nathan admits he was never really academic and his real passion was with performing, he joined a boy’s choir and then a local theatre group where at the age of 16 he played Simon in a production of Jesus Christ Superstar and this was the first time he heard the soundtrack which he fell in love with.

He enrolled in a Performing Arts course at college, and at 17 he left college and got a job working as a Blue Coat in a holiday park in Devon. From here he got a job singing in bars in Tenerife, which then lead on to singing on a cruise ship for 6 months. On returning from the cruise ship, Nathan got a job on a UK rock tour of a show called Route 66 and toured for two months singing Aerosmith and Bon Jovi songs. Nathan’s next big gig was getting a part in the UK tour of Thriller Live, the Michael Jackson tribute show. He loved singing to crowded theatres night after night and since the tour finished last year he has been constantly busy with solo gigs and performances in the UK and abroad with The Rock Tenors and West End star Kerry Ellis.

How did it feel when you found out you got through to the live finals?

It felt beyond amazing, Andrew is such a nice guy and when he told me that I had got through I just couldn’t stop crying. All I wanted to do was to make my family proud.

What can we expect from you in the live shows?

Well you can expect fun performances, great songs and hopefully people will get to see a different side to my voice that they haven’t already seen – a bit of soul, RnB, pop and of course rock!! I want to give performances that people will remember.

How has the experience been for you so far?

The experience has been so hard and I have learnt a lot too. The coaches are amazing and have been very helpful; the pressure is really on, the further you get along the competition. I have made some friends for life here and it’s been great to share the experience with such a nice bunch of lads.

What would winning Superstar mean to you and how do you think it will change your life?

It would mean the absolute world! I could move out of my mum’s house, and the UK could see that British rock is still alive! If I’m honest the happiness that my Mum would get from seeing me win would be enough of a reason to win it. She has given up a lot so I can chase my dreams. I haven’t been to theatre school or university and I think it would be good for people to see that you don’t have to train at an expensive school to make it in the theatre. I want to inspire people to love rock music and love the theatre. If I won this show that’s what I would strive to do!
