Soapy News: Queen Vic to be infested with fleas in EastEnders & Corrie’s Shobna reckons Sunita’s been reading 50 Shades of Grey!

Plus, Emmerdale newcomer Laura says Amy’s mum Kerry will “raise hell” in the village

We’ll begin today’s round up of soapy news with EastEnders, where it’s been revealed that the Queen Vic is set to become so infested with fleas this summer, that Kat and Alfie will have to shut the pub down!

It’s not known how the pub gets infested, but apparently, it’s so bad that Kat and Alfie call in fumigators who have to treat the entire building and everything in it…

But of course, Kat and Alfie’s finances are already stretched, so the combination of paying for the pub to be fumigated, and the loss of business they’ll incur will push them to the edge.

An insider told the Sun, “This is a huge blow for Kat and Alfie.

“They’ve been struggling to make ends meet and lose thousands while the pub is shut.

“They have no idea who brought the fleas in and are determined to get to the bottom of it…

“Kat and Alfie’s relationship has been strained for months and this only adds to their problems.”

Of the locals staying away from the pub, the insider said, “They were scared of spreading the insect invasion to their own homes.”

We’ll see that drama begin in August.

Over to Corrie now, where Shobna Gulati reckons that her character’s racy behaviour in having had an affair with Karl Munro – which they’re about to rekindle and get caught in the act by Karl’s girlfriend Stella – may be because she’s been reading “mummy porn” bestseller, 50 Shades of Grey!

While appearing on This Morning, Shobna said, “Something’s happened to Sunita. It’s Weatherfield water…

“It was quite shocking though as I read the script. How would I move and be that girl? Maybe she’s read [50 Shades of Grey].”

Shobna added, “She’s had kids and she’s with a man who doesn’t really care. Then she finds a man who really wants her.

”She does feel rejected by Karl. [Dev]‘s just smothered her again.

“So it’s all very complicated for her, and she just feels like, ‘I need something. I need to go out’.

”She takes an option – the maddest and biggest option of Sunita’s live. I thought, ‘Wow!’ She was very drunk at the time.”

Don’t miss the drama next week when Sunita and Karl are caught out, leaving Dev devastated.

Finally, it’s over to Emmerdale where newcomer Laura Norton has promised that her character Kerry, who is of course Amy Wyatt’s mother, is set to “raise hell” in the village.

As fans will know, we met Kerry for the first time in a recent episode, which saw her punch her daughter in the mouth for flirting with her boyfriend. However, she didn’t realize who Amy was at the time, and she now wants to make amends.

Of the punch, Laura said, “I loved it. When Kerry flies off the handle she causes merry hell.

“So far I’ve punched Amy, smacked someone with a handbag, got blind drunk, had fights and been hospitalised — and I’ve only been filming for six weeks.”

Laura added, “Kerry is totally out of control and can be a madwoman, especially when she’s drunk.

“But she is also vulnerable and tries her best to get things right. Some of the scenes I’ve filmed are so emotional that I was genuinely in tears.

“The challenge will be to show the audience that there are two sides to her.”

Of landing the role, Laura said, “I still can’t believe I’m in the show really. My family are huge fans of Emmerdale so it was always on in the house when I was little.

“When my dad found out I got the part, he cried. He and my mum threw a home screening for my first episode and they’ve been glued to it ever since.

“They’ve been in stitches seeing me in Kerry’s ridiculous clothes, getting drunk and tramping through puddles with no shoes on.

“It means a lot to them. They’ve seen me struggling to do this job over the years, and longed for something like this to come along.

“I’ve gone through phases when I’ve been given a part every time I auditioned. Other times it feels like all you are hearing is No.

“You learn not to take it personally but every time you go to an audition and get turned down, it’s easy to forget it affects your family too. Luckily mine have been so supportive.

“They’re delighted that I can give up all of the stupid jobs I’ve done in the past to pay the rent.”
