Sunday, 8 July 2012, 9:00PM – 10:30PM

Fearne Cotton hosts The Nation’s Favourite Number One Single which celebrates the 60th anniversary of the UK’s first Official Singles Chart. In a unique celebration we hear the songs that have defined our lives over sixty glorious years.

Over three nights the programme will reveal the results of an ITV.com viewers’ vote to determine which song can truly be called our greatest ever chart topper.

The singles have been pre selected by some of the best known music experts in the industry. The expert panel includes composer and drummer Stewart Copeland from iconic rock band The Police, singer-songwriter and former member of All Saints Shaznay Lewis, British soul and R&B singer and songwriter Beverley Knight, record producer Pete Waterman, presenter and author Paul Gambaccini, DJ and presenter Trevor Nelson, The Observer’s pop critic Kitty Empire, television presenter and radio DJ Reggie Yates, pop PR expert and television presenter Nicki Chapman, Peter Robinson from pop website Popjustice, writer and broadcaster Andrew Collins and radio DG and television presenter Mike Read.

2012 marks the 60th anniversary of crooner Al Martino becoming the first artist to land a UK number one single in November 1952. This show takes a look back at some of the momentous musical moments that have happened since and tell the stories of 60 unforgettable number one singles by speaking to those responsible for them – from the performers to the songwriters and producers. Also in this ultimate countdown viewers will be able to test their pop knowledge through a play-for-fun pop quiz, and discover how much they really do know about these chart topping artists from across the generations.
