Plus, Charlotte Bellamy says Marlon & Laurel will move in together on Emmerdale, and sneak peek clip from tomorrow’s EastEnders

We’ll begin today’s soapy news round up over on Coronation Street, where it’s been revealed that Julie Hesmondhalgh is to take a break from the show and her role as Hayley Cropper.

Confirming the news on Twitter, Julie – who’s starring in a new play entitled Black Roses, which is playing at Manchester’s Royal Exchange – wrote, “Right that’s me done. Bye bye weatherfield til October!

“#bitoftheatre #sicksinmouth.”

It’s expected that Julie will be off for two months, but it hasn’t as yet been revealed how her character will be temporarily written out.

Over to Emmerdale now, where Charlotte Bellamy has been telling Inside Soap magazine that her character Laurel Thomas will soon be setting up home with Marlon Dingle, however, it seems things won’t be easy for the couple, especially where her step-daughter Gabby is concerned…

Charlotte said, “Laurel’s set to move in with Marlon, and they’ll have their own family unit.

“I don’t know if they’ll get married or have a baby, but it’s a big change in Laurel’s life and my journey in the show.

“However, I don’t think it’s going to be plain sailing with little Gabby.”

Finally, it’s over to EastEnders, where Shirley Carter is about to propose to Phil Mitchell, on the roof of the Queen Vic! As you do…

The unplanned proposal happens after Shirley bottles out of carrying out the sponsored abseil down the front of the pub, but once again, Jean Slater becomes Shirley’s unlikely hero as she – with Phil’s help – talks Shirley round and convinces her that she can do it.

Here’s a sneak peek from tomorrow night’s show when Phil – for once – becomes almost emotional as he talks to Shirley about their relationship and how much he loves her.

Don’t miss that drama tomorrow night!
