Maintaining the momentum of a sensational year of sport, the BBC is to air live coverage of the England Women’s Senior International football match against Croatia. The game will be live on BBC Two on Wednesday 19 September from 5.00pm.
Jacqui Oatley will be accompanied by Sue Smith and Faye White as she brings all the action from Walsall. Commentary will come from Nigel Adderley and Lucy War.
A win will take England’s women to the top of their group and secure automatic qualification for Euro 2013 in Sweden.
England coach, Hope Powell is delighted with the continued support of the BBC: “I say it every time, but it really is fantastic to have the weight of the BBC behind us. When they show our games they really help to promote women’s football in this country and their coverage is always excellent.
“They did a great job in broadcasting the last four women’s international tournaments and I really enjoyed their coverage of the Olympics as well. I hope we can put on a good show for them in Walsall but the most important thing is to get the win which will send us to next summer’s Euros.”
Barbara Slater, Director, BBC Sport, added: “Bringing women’s sport to as wide an audience as possible is really important to us and we’re delighted to be showing this game live on BBC Two. Over the summer viewers demonstrated a real appetite for women’s football and we look forward to continuing to support our international football team.
