Fans of ITV’s lavish period drama Downton Abbey – which is created by Julian Fellowes – have been eagerly awaiting the show’s return with its third run, and yippee, it’s back on Sunday, 16 September at 9pm!
And ahead of it, we have spoilers, cast interviews, pictures and clips for you, so if you don’t want to know some of what’s ahead on the hit show, leave now!
For those of you who do want answers to questions such as ‘Will Mary and Matthew make it down the aisle?’ read on!
Well, to answer that question, yes they will indeed, and last month, actress Michelle Dockery, who of course plays Lady
Mary, revealed to the Mirror that filming of the scenes was done as secretively as possible so as not to give away details such as Mary’s all important dress, but she promises that it’s a doozy!
She said, “It’s a truly stunning dress. I’m sure people will make some comparisons with the royal wedding.”
And Dan Stevens, who plays Matthew Crawley, said of Mary and Matthew’s marriage, “We’d have been hard pushed to stretch out the will-they-won’t they storyline much longer.”
However, he added that the day won’t be plain sailing and teased, “There’s still some thrills and spills.”
And finally, he added, “It doesn’t get pornographic but there’s a newly-wed undercurrent.”
Also coming up in the new series are additions to the Crawley household, including of course Shirley MacLaine as Cora’s acerbic mother Martha, as well as at least two new servants, one of whom – a new footman called Jimmy – the villainous Thomas (Rob James Collier) is set to fall for!
And a female servant called Ivy is set to creating some passion downstairs apparently.
However, despite retaining new servants, and of course keeping the established ones, it seems that the Crawley family are down on their financial luck, and Lord Grantham (Hugh Bonneville) is set for some sleepless nights over it.
Also in series three, we’re set to see “a major character” die, while poor old Lady Edith is going to do her best to convince her on-off beau Sir Anthony Strallen that she really is marriage material.
Here are all the show’s trailers…
Of the new series, Fellowes recently explained, “This season is about the recovery from the war.
“There were those few years where people were trying to decide [if] the world was going to go back?
“Is it going to be the same as it was before? Was the future going to be completely different?
“That’s the theme of the [series].”
I cannot wait for the news series! Are you excited? In the meantime, here are a few more preview pics…
