Plus, why is Amira Masood back? And more spoilers for September and October!

There’s dramatic news this morning about the possible fate of EastEnders characters Lauren and Joey Branning – who are of course cousins and set to fall in love with each other this autumn – because we’ll be left wondering if they manage to survive after a car they’re in crashes and explodes!

However, as the Daily Mail reports, because the car explodes and bursts into flames soon after the couple crash into a shop front, it isn’t overly likely that they’ll survive.

The paper adds, “The misbehaving teenager, played by 19-year-old Jacqueline Jossa, steals her sinister uncle’s car and takes her cousin Joey for a spin before losing control and smashing it into the front window of BettaSave.”

Of the plotline, as well as Lauren and Joey’s forbidden romance, a show insider said, “This is going to be a huge storyline across the autumn. Lauren hits the booze and shows her vulnerable side to Joey.

“He’s there for her and feels very protective…

“The more time they spend together the more they start to realise their feelings for each other are not just that of cousins. It’s a powerful force…

“The attraction is so strong between them that it’s going to take something huge to stop them jumping into bed.”

The crash scenes are some of the most expensive the show has ever filmed, with What’s On TV reporting that it cost around £1million to stage.

A show source said of the crash, which was filmed over a five-day shoot in Keynsham, Somerset, “No expense was spared on this car crash.

“With salaries, location fees, hotel costs, security fees and maintaining the set for five days, costs were nudging one million pounds.

“But fans will think it all worth it with this thrilling plot line.”

Also coming up on the show, Amira Masood is headed back to Walford, albeit briefly, but the show’s bosses have teased that she may have something to do with why Christian and Syed are due to leave the Square.

The show’s website, which reported on Amira’s return, states, “The queen of glam is set to make a speedy visit to The Square within the next few months.

“We all know that Amira (Preeya Kalidas) has done her best to spilt up ex-hubby Syed and Christian in the past – is she coming back to have one more go?!

“The big question is does she have something to do with Syed and Christian’s impending departure? Hmm, watch this space…”

I will of course watch that space for you and keep you posted! For now though, we have a sneak peek clip for you of this Thursday’s episode, when Jean lets Kat know that she’s fully aware that she’s been having an affair…

Apropos of that, Jake Wood – who plays Max Branning – hasn’t ruled out that his character could turn out to be Kat’s lover.

He commented on it while teasing this year’s Christmas storylines for the Branning family.

He said, “Max and Tanya are potentially getting remarried, they’re planning for that at the moment so we’ve got to wait and see, and obviously the Kat reveal I think will be some time before Christmas, so it should be a good Christmas, it’ll be a Branning Christmas I think.”

But of course, there’s lots happening before we get to Christmas on the Square, and we have all the teasers for the rest of this month’s storylines, and into October…
