Paul O'Grady: For The Love Of Dogs

Monday, 15 October 2012, 8:00PM – 8:30PM

FINAL EPISODE:

“Do you know what, I’ve held out in here – I’ve seen abused dogs and all sorts and fell in love with dogs and I’ve held it together – I thought ‘I’m not crying on telly.’ But this has finished me off…”

Presenter and comedian Paul O’Grady absolutely loves dogs, so he’s spending seven weeks with the staff and canines at the world famous Battersea Dogs & Cats Home. He’ll be following dog’s ‘tails’ from their arrival at the home through to their adoption into a new family.

It’s Paul’s last week at Battersea, and he’s really quite upset about it. The Battersea staff are not prepared to let him go quietly and have a wonderful surprise waiting for him on his last day, leaving Paul in pieces.

But first he meets an elderly deaf dog called Rizzler and assists Helen, a behavioural expert at Battersea, in teaching Rizzler some sign language to enable them to communicate with him. Excitement builds as Rizzler makes a star appearance on the This Morning sofa, hoping to find a new home. Paul is feeling optimistic: “I just know someone is going to fall in love with an old deaf dog who looks like Rupert the bear”.

Paul also catches up with tiny dog Bourbon and her puppies, who we met in episode two. There is very sad news when two of the puppies don’t survive, but a very moving moment when two more of the pups are reunited with their mum after being hand-reared since their birth. Paul meets up with them all again and cupid strikes when he learns that one of the pups is still seeking a home. Is this his final chance to extend the O’Grady family? “Well I can’t just walk out empty handed, it wouldn’t look good would it?”
