No source material left for third Call the Midwife season

CalltheMidwife2013When the second season of Call the Midwife comes to an end, the show’s writers will be on their own.

The current season of the hit BBC drama is based closely on the books of the late Jennifer Worth and the source material will be all used up prior to the newly commissioned third season.

“I will have [used up all Worth’s stories] by the end of the second series,” said series co-writer Heidi Thomas told Radio Times.

“But don’t worry. It doesn’t mean the show will end. The characters will be well developed by then and Jennifer was happy for us to continue.”

Thomas says she developed a strong bond with Worth prior to the latter’s death in 2011 and received her full blessing to make the TV series in the way that she wished.
