Over 17 episodes, this landmark documentary series from the 1970s tells the story of popular music from its earliest origins through to 1975. This second programme travels to the Sahara desert, the Salzkammergut region of Austria, the Ozark mountains of Arkansas and the state of Texas to tackle assumptions about the origins of US pop music. Featuring Lightnin' Hopkins, Duke Ellington, Rufus Thomas, The Platters, James Brown, LeRoi Jones, Tina Turner and Ginger Baker.
