Celebrating its 10-tear anniversary, the British Soap Awards 2008 is set to be the glitziest and most glamorous ceremony yet.
It’s been another year of high drama with sensational storylines from the nation’s most watched TV shows.
They keep us all hooked throughout the year. This is their chance to be put centre stage and be rewarded for the entertainment that they bring. All your favourite soap stars will don their finest for one of the most glamorous and popular nights of the awards calendar in a true celebration of the soaps.
Last year, Kym Ryder was awarded Best Newcomer and Coronation Street was crowned Best British Soap.
Who will triumph this year?
There’s everything to play for as 17 prestigious awards are unveiled, including Sexiest Male and Female, Best Actor and Actress, and the ultimate accolade, Best British Soap.

Following last year’s star-studded Great Britons 2007 event, Britain’s Best 2008 is a unique new ceremony celebrating the absolute best that Britain has to offer worldwide.
In association with The Sun, this dazzling event will honour those who have achieved the highest level of international acclaim in their chosen fields over the past 12 months. It will also allow the nation to take stock and feel proud of what the country has achieved internationally and also celebrate the richness and diversity of modern Britain.
This year’s categories for recognition are Music, The Arts, Sport, Film, Television, Business and Campaigner. In addition, two special awards – outstanding global Achievement (in association with The Sun) and new Talent – will be handed out.

The winners for the Sony Ericsson Empire Awards 2008 will be revealed at a star studded ceremony hosted by comedian and actor Rob Brydon at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London. Reporting from the red carpet and backstage with the stars will be TV presenter and model Emma Griffiths. The Sony Ericsson Empire Awards are chosen by readers of Empire magazine and its website, www.empireonline/awards2008.com, which makes them the only film awards this season to be voted for by British film fans.
Atonement and Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix lead the charge, both receiving a staggering six nominations. Nominated for Best British Film, Best Actress (Keira Knightley), Best Actor (James McAvoy), Best Director (Joe Wright), Best Newcomer (Saoirse Ronan) and the brand new The Sony Ericsson Soundtrack Award categories, Atonement proves its worth as a cinematic masterpiece.

Legendary rock’n’roll couple Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne preside over the The Brits 2008 when the UK’s biggest and most prestigious music awards returns live to ITV1 on February 20th.
Some of the greatest artists from Britain and around the world will take to the stage on a night that will mark the 28th anniversary of The Brits. Exclusive performances will come from Kylie Minogue, Kaiser Chiefs, Leona Lewis, Rihanna, Mark Ronson and Mika. Sir Paul McCartney will play what is sure to be an electric set for the Earls Court crowd as he celebrates receiving his Outstanding Contribution to Music Award.
Sharon Osbourne said of hosting the biggest and most anticipated music party of the year: “The thing I'm most looking forward to is working with Ozzy again. We’re not nervous. What is there to be nervous about - this is music. We are not hosting the Nobel Peace awards, we just want to make this awards show great fun.”

For this one-off award, the single biggest grant to be awarded by the Big Lottery Fund through a nationwide vote, four projects will showcase their ideas for the national landmark in separate programmes. Each show features a celebrity advocate who will champion the cause and invite the public to support their project to help secure the funding.
The celebrities – Ray Mears, Lorraine Kelly, Brian Blessed and Toyah Wilcox – and computer generated images (CGI) will bring each project to life, giving viewers an experience as close as possible to the finished project.

The American Music Awards is the not-to-be missed musical extravaganza of the year, with comedian, writer and talk show host Jimmy Kimmel (Entourage, The Adam Corolla Project) stepping up to the presenting pulpit for the fourth year in a row to hand out the musical accolades to the best artists of 2007.
For the first time in American Music Awards history the winners will be decided by an online public vote, with this year’s show taking place at the Nokia theatre, LA. Hosted by Carol Vorderman, the glittering annual awards from London's West End are packed with breathtaking stories of heroism and courage, uplifting moments and hilarious surprises.
Winners range from an air stewardess who delivered and battled to save a 1lb premature baby at 30,000ft to Britain's oldest man, the last First World war volunteer, who still visits schools to educate children at the age of 111 years old.

ABC'S "UGLY BETTY" AND DISNEY CHANNEL'S "HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL" WIN FIVE 2007 ALMA AWARDS
The ABC Television Network took home four awards and Disney Channel garnered one at "The 2007 ALMA Awards," taped Friday, June 1, at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, CA. The star-studded event aired Tuesday, June 5 on the ABC Television Network. Eva Longoria ("Desperate Housewives") hosted.
The ABC winners were "Ugly Betty," a production of ABC Studios, for Outstanding Television Series, Mini-Series or TV Movie; America Ferrera ("Ugly Betty") for Outstanding Actress in a Television Series, Mini-Series or TV Movie; Ana Ortiz ("Ugly Betty") for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Television Series, Mini-Series or TV Movie; and Silvio Horta ("Ugly Betty") for Outstanding Writing for a Television Series, Mini-Series or TV Movie. Disney Channel winner was Kenny Ortega ("High School Musical") for Outstanding Director in a Television Series, Mini-Series or TV Movie.
Musical performances at the awards ceremony included multi-platinum artist Beyonc Knowles, as well as Prince, Sheila E., Calle 13, Dashboard Confessional, Billy Gibbons, Los Lonely Boys and War.

June 5, 2007 Los Angeles, CA -- The Television Critics Association today unveiled its 2007 TCA Award nominations.
Once again, NBC leads the list with 13 nominations on the strength of its strong freshmen series, including, "30 Rock," "Friday Night Lights" and "Heroes," which garnered 12 nominations total. Third-year comedy "The Office" received the other nod.
Other newcomers also received recognition. ABC's "Ugly Betty" received three nominations while Showtime's "Dexter" netted a pair. ABC Family saw success in children's programming with their series "Lincoln Heights" and "Kyle XY."
HBO programs received nine notices overall. Veteran series "The Sopranos" and "The Wire" received nominations in the dramatic categories while the Spike Lee documentary "When the Levees Broke" secured three nominations.
The 23rd annual TCA Awards honor the finest work of the 2006-07 season as selected by the association's 200-plus member critics and journalists. The winners will be announced at a July 21st ceremony at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Calif.
