The American Music Awards is the not-to-be missed musical extravaganza of the year, with comedian, writer and talk show host Jimmy Kimmel (Entourage, The Adam Corolla Project) stepping up to the presenting pulpit for the fourth year in a row to hand out the musical accolades to the best artists of 2007.

For the first time in American Music Awards history the winners will be decided by an online public vote, with this year’s show taking place at the Nokia theatre, LA. Last year, The Black Eyed Peas topped the bill, taking home three awards for Favourite Band across two genres, as well as Favourite Album for Monkey Business. This year the group failed to earn a single nomination, so who will steal their crown in 2007?

Last year saw top performances from an eclectic mix of pop starlets including Beyonce, Pussycat Dolls, Tenacious D, Snow Patrol, Mary J Blige, Nelly Furtado and Gwen Stefani. This year the names are just as impressive. There will be performances from Mariah Carey, Duran Duran, Fergie (Black Eyed Peas), Nicole Scherzinger (Pussycat Dolls), Alicia Keys, Maroon 5, Rhianna and Neyo.

Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Linkin Park and Daughtry lead the way this year with three nominations, with each of the four artists having been nominated for their current albums.

Timberlake is also up for Favourite Male Artist and Beyonce is nominated for Favourite Female Artist. Linkin Park are up for Favourite Band, as well as Favourite Artist, while Daughtry is nominated for Favourite Breakthrough Artist and Favourite Artist for Adult Contemporary Music.

Each artist or band is nominated across different genres of music: Pop or Rock, Country, Soul/Rhythm & Blues, Rap/Hip-Hop, Adult Contemporary Music, Latin and Alternative Rock.

ITV2 will see you on the red carpet for glamour, glitz and great performances.
