Fresh on the heels of boxer Amir Khan, this week it’s the turn of cricketing legend Darren Gough to take up the challenge.

The “Dazzler” will go head to head against Chris Rainford, a firefighter from Chorley, over seven different games made up of physical and mental challenges right through to the downright quirky and daring. This week the contestants driving, climbing, and salami-slicing skills will all be put to the test.

Passionate about sport and fitness, Chris has been a firefighter for 22 years and was voted Fire Service Sports Personality Of The Year. Darren is England's all-time highest wicket-taker in one-day internationals and is welcoming the challenge of Beat The Star.

With £100,000 at stake for Chris and the pride and reputation on the line for Darren there is everything to play for.

Host Vernon Kay will be on hand to explain each round and encourage both contestants throughout the rounds. Each of the challenges will be a complete surprise to the players giving them only seconds to prepare.

Will Darren bowl over his opponent or will Chris leave him stumped and pocket the £100,000 prize fund? If Darren succeeds the money rolls over until next week when a new celebrity and challenger come face to face in Beat The Star.

Stars who will be appearing later in the series include tennis ace Martina Navratilova and Olympic meadalist and World champion swimmer Mark Foster.

Beat The Star is a co-production by Diverse and Gallowgate exclusively for ITV1.
