Olympic swimmer Mark Foster has caused ripples recently by retiring from competitive swimming then making a fantastic comeback only to be selected for the Beijing 2008 games.

Before he heads off to represent his country Mark will be defending his reputation in this week’s Beat The Star. Mark will go head to head with investment banker Brenton Amedee over seven different games made up of physical and mental challenges right through to the downright quirky and daring. This week the contestants will be driving each other mad playing football with a car, seeing if they stomach each other in a huge flip over swing challenge and putting their grey matter to test in a general knowledge quiz against the clock.

Standing a 6’3” tall keen runner and fitness fanatic Breton works on a busy trading floor, due to the nature of his job he’s used to pressure and making logical and complex decisons on a daily basis. Mark is 4 x Olympian, 6 x World champion, 2 x Commonwealth champion, 10 x European champion and 8 x World record holder. Will Breton be able to Beat The Star?

With a whopping £50,000 at stake for Brenton and the pride and reputation on the line for Mark there is everything to play for.

Host Vernon Kay will be on hand to explain each round and encourage both contestants throughout the rounds. Each of the challenges will be a complete surprise to the players giving them only seconds to prepare.

Will Mark dive straight in and come up swimming or will Breton make a splash and pocket the £50,000 prize fund for himself? If Mark succeeds the money rolls over until next week when a new celebrity and challenger come face to face in Beat The Star.

Stars who will be appearing later in the series include tennis ace Martina Navratilova and Olympic meadalist and Tennis champion and newly skater accomlished ice dancer Greg Rudeski.

Beat The Star is a co-production by Diverse and Gallowgate exclusively for ITV1.
