snowy day (7/40)
06.40–06.50
Continuing on Five this week is the intimate documentary series that follows 30 four-year-olds as they start primary school.
Narrated by Milkshake! presenter Kemi Majeks, Big School is aimed at young children who will soon be experiencing the move to infant school themselves. The programme is thought to be the first single-subject observational documentary series for this age group. Big School charts the kids’ various adventures in their new school –from their first lunch and first PE lesson, to the end of term Easter celebrations and goodbyes to new friends. There are rules to be learned, friends to be made, birthdays to be celebrated and much more.
In today’s programme, Class FF arrives at school to find a blanket of snow, which means snowballs, sledging and a lot of fun –except for Elise, who does not like the cold!
Monday’s edition, ‘Haroon’s Day at Nursery’, takes a step back to nursery school, where threeyear-old Haroon –who will be moving up to big school next year –finds out how to make a camp and how to write his name. Plus, there’s a surprise in store for him at the end of the day.
On Tuesday, in ‘Sharing Time’, Adam and Elliot are not happy because everyone is playing with the trains and they want one for themselves. But it is not long before the teachers step in, and the two boys learn about sharing and taking turns.
In ‘Luke Is Unwell’ on Wednesday, four-yearold Luke starts to feel poorly after a fun trip to school in the morning. But Daddy soon arrives to save the day and take him home.
In Thursday’s instalment, ‘Windy and Rainy Day’, the breezy weather does not stop Class FF from working outside, but the rain soon does! So the children head back inside for a fun music lesson with Mr Mitchener.
And in ‘Harvey’s PE Lesson’ on Friday, it is PE time again for Class FF –but Harvey is reluctant to join in. Is it because he does not like getting changed? Mrs Tucker comes to the rescue, and before long all the children are having great fun!
