Continuing on Five this week is the intimate documentary series that follows 30 four-year-olds as they start primary school.
Narrated by Milkshake! presenter Kemi Majeks, Big School is aimed at young children who will soon be experiencing the move to infant school themselves. The programme is thought to be the first single-subject observational documentary series for this age group. Big School charts the kids’ various adventures in their new school –from their first lunch and first PE lesson, to the end-ofterm Easter celebrations and goodbyes to new friends. There are rules to be learned, friends to be made, birthdays to be celebrated and much more.
In today’s programme, four-year-old Ben loves reading –so he is happy when it is library time for class FF. But just what is it that he likes so much about books?
Monday’s edition, ‘Snow Day’, sees the teachers close the school after a heavy snowfall, meaning it is a day off for the class! Dominic, Luke and Jessica have fun in the snow with their families.
On Tuesday, in ‘Fun in Nursery’, Nursery kids Sophie and Max play with bubbles and paint. And there is a big surprise for both of them at the end of the day...
In ‘Fruit Time’ on Wednesday, class FF enjoy a day full of fruit. There is fruit at snack time, fruit at lunch time, and even fruit in music –as Mr Mitchener teaches the whole class the Fruit Song!
In Thursday’s instalment, ‘Morgan and Gadron the Dragon’, form teacher Mrs Fenner has found a baby dragon called Gadron on her way in to school –and the children are going to meet him! At first, Morgan is a little frightened of the dragon, but she soon feels better after a special ride on a magic carpet.
And in ‘Hamzah’s Day at School’ on Friday, Hamzah is feeling a bit left out in class because he only speaks a little English. But it is not long before he is playing with his friends at break and having fun in his extra English lesson.
