Interviews

Fans of EastEnders will of course know that last year, Tanya Branning found out she had a sister, Ava, who her mum Cora initially claimed had died soon after she was born…

However, with some help from Patrick Trueman, Tanya discovered that in fact, Ava is very much alive and well and teaching in school just a stone’s throw from the Square. So of course, Tanya set out to meet her, and did just that.

But she had intended to leave it there and never to tell her mum that she’d found Ava. However, events overtook her when Ava returned the purse Tanya dropped at the school, and Cora and Ava met then for the first time.

And in upcoming episodes, we’re to discover that Ava has a son, Dexter, who’s going to make his first appearance in Walford next week. Dexter is played by young actor Khali Best, and this week, he’s been speaking to Soaplife about the circumstances under which Dexter meets his long lost family.

He began by saying, “He’s found this photograph and the Brannings’ address, which his mum, Ava, has left lying around somewhere.

“He’s trying to piece things together and find out why his mum is so interested in them.” Continue reading »

The BBC have now released details about the highly anticipated new drama, Ripper Street, which will being its first series on 30th December on BBC1, and we have images, clips and an interview with the show’s star Jerome Flynn!

Here’s what the BBC say of the drama…

April 1889 – six months since the last Jack the Ripper killing, East London is emerging into a fragile peace, hopeful that this killer’s reign of terror might at last have run its course.

Nowhere is this truer than in the corridors of H Division, the police precinct charged with keeping order in the chaos of Whitechapel. Its men hunted this maniac; and failed to find him.

Ripper Street is their story. A police procedural set in the teeming streets of the East End as it moves into the last decade of the 19th Century. H Division was responsible for policing a relatively small area of just 1¼ square miles, yet into that space were packed some 67,000 people; a seething, bustling mass of the poor and dispossessed… Continue reading »

Plus Marc Elliott on why he’s leaving, and Lacey Turner on life after Walford

As we reported recently, it’s widely rumoured that Derek Branning is going to die in a storyline that’s set to play out over Christmas.

And adding further weight to that speculation is a report in the Mail today which reveals that as Jamie Foreman – who of course plays Derek – is leaving the show, he’s been permitted to reduce his child support arrears payments.

He had previously been ordered to pay £1,000 per month, however, that’s now been reduced to just £200.

Crispin Hayhoe, who’s the barrister for the Child Support Agency, told Bromley Magistrates Court, “Mr Foreman is an actor and I understand that the role he is playing at the moment is likely to end shortly.

“The agency understands the situation Mr Foreman faces. It is not uncommon for people effectively to lose their jobs.”

And Foreman’s lawyer, James Mehigan said, “Prior to paying £1,000 per month per child, he was paying £50 a week for each child.

“When this job finishes at the end of this month he will be back in the same financial position. So he has asked the court to revert to £50 a week per child… Continue reading »

As fans of Emmerdale will no doubt be aware, the soap reaches its landmark 40th anniversary in October, and to celebrate, as well as several special spin-off shows, we’re to be treated to a live hour-long broadcast.

And it’s during that episode that “a major and well loved character” will be murdered. Now, naturally, the peeps at ITV are keeping the identity of the victim, and the killer, a closely guarded secret, but I have an inkling that we might see Betty Eggleton (Paula Tilbrook) shuffling violently off the mortal coil.

The reason being, she has been away from the soap for quite some time, but has of course recently returned, however, given that Paula is 82, I very much doubt she’s going to be a full-time cast member again, so for me, that puts her very much in the running to be the murder victim! What do you reckon? Continue reading »
