Principal photography begins today on the new 10 x 60″ sixth series of Skins (July 21, 2011)

E4’s multi BAFTA award-winning drama Skins launches into a sixth series.

The gang returns in style, burning their way through a new term at Roundview as new friendships, secret relationships and sexual awakening complicate their already messy lives.

Caught between past and present, the bonds between them are tested as they learn what it really means to be a friend, a lover, an adult.

Camilla Campbell, Channel 4 Head of Drama says, “I am delighted that the sixth series of Skins is now underway. Having set up this new set of characters in the previous series, we can now go into more depth as to where their stories take us. With moral ambiguity, high drama, as well as a strong dose of comedy, Skins six will not disappoint.”

John Griffin, Executive Producer added, “We’re hugely excited about the fantastic mix of writers we have for Skins this year, some of whom are first time screen writers. They‘ve spent the past few months developing exciting and challenging stories for our characters and as filming gets underway we’re all very excited to see them realised onto to the screen.”

Series six will continue to be written by a unique team of young British writers and teen contributors. Danny Brocklehurst (Shameless, Exile) joins the writing team along with Jack Lothian (Ashes to Ashes, Beaver Falls), Skins novelist Jess Brittain and new young writer Laura Hunter. Directors confirmed are Jack Clough and Oscar nominated director Ian Barns (Wish 143).

The new series is produced by Toby Welsh and Neil Duncan and executive produced by John Griffin, Charlie Pattinson, George Faber with series creator Bryan Elsley. The 10 episode series will shoot in Bristol from July to December to transmit early 2012 on E4.

Skins is made by Company Pictures and Stormdog Films for E4.

The Sun reports today that Masterchef hosts John Torode and Gregg Wallace are taking the internet by storm after a fan turned their soundbites from the show into a catchy techno song…

And it’s brilliant!

Here’s the rest of the report and the clip of the track… The track, which has been called MasterChef Synesthesia, was uploaded by Youtube user “swedemason” yesterday and has already received 1,000 hits in just a few hours.

The video for the track sees Gregg Wallace repeating: “I like the base, base, biscuit base, I like the buttery biscuit base. I like the base, base biscuit base.”

Sidekick John Torode then chips in appearing to rap: “Crunch base, nutty base,” before Gregg is back yelling: “Buttery biscuit base!”

Then Aussie John gets his own riff adding: “It needs more ooomp.”

Last night a source close to Gregg and John said: “They absolutely love the song, it’s so catchy and very funny.

“They’ve both got a great sense of humour and have been laughing themselves silly about it.”

Sky1 have announced that Royle Family stars Ralf Little and Craig Cash have reunited to star in a new sitcom entitled, ‘The Café’…

Which is some of the best news I’ve heard all day!! I can’t wait to see this new show!

Here’s the press release from Sky…

We’re proud to announce The Café, a new series written by and starring Ralf Little and Michelle Terry, and directed by BAFTA award-winning Craig Cash.

The Café is set in and around a café in Weston-Super-Mare run by generational trilogy Mary (June Watson), Carol (Ellie Haddington) and Sarah (Michelle Terry).

Acting as the social hub of the seafront town, the café sees all walks of life pass through and gives Sky1 HD viewers an honest portrayal of life in a typical British seaside resort.

Sarah is in her late twenties and has recently returned home from London as she attempts to pursue a writing career. Many of her old school adversaries still live in the area and are frequent visitors to the café. Richard (Ralf Little),

Sarah’s former childhood sweetheart is a care home assistant by day and a musician by night whose feathers are ruffled when fellow class-mate and former love rival, John (Daniel Ings), now a successful events manager in London, returns to Weston to visit his elderly mother.

Chloe (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) is Sarah’s oldest friend who works in the local hairdresser and always looks on the bright side of life.

Her father, Stan (David Troughton) is a frequent visitor to the café due in the most part to his fondness for Carol. Carol, however, has more pressing matters on her mind as Brenda Keily (Seeta Indrani), a local successful entrepreneur threatens to take her family business away.

Also resident in Weston-Super-Mare are Ava (Carolin Stoltz), the polish receptionist at the hairdresser and The Dobsons, regular customers at the cafe played by Brian Murphy and Marcia Warren.

Other regulars who drop by include ‘Big Issue Frank’ (Jack Roth) and Weston-Super-Mare’s very own living statue, Keiran (Kevin Trainor).

Little and Cash know each other well, with both proving their comedic chemistry in the award-winning The Royle Family, and we couldn’t be more excited to pair them back together.

Lucy Lumsden, Head of Comedy, Sky commented: “It’s been a delight to give new writers like Ralf and Michelle the chance to shine on Sky 1HD. We look forward to welcoming you in to The Café with its amazing cast and stunning direction from the multi-talented Craig Cash.”

Plus Tina McIntyre and Dr Matt Carter hook up!

The Daily Star today reveals that Becky McDonald (Katherine Kelly) will have a one night stand with Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) when she goes on one of her benders.

As viewers will know, Becky’s having trouble holding things together now that little Max has been taken into care, and though Steve (Simon Gregson) will try his best over the coming weeks to reign in Becky’s behaviour, she continues to seek solace in the bottom of several bottles.

However, Becky will end up sleeping with Nick in a bid to make Steve jealous and see how she feels over his ex Tracy (Kate Ford) being around all the time…

But it backfires on her when her drunken antics push Steve into Tracy’s arms – and her bed – and the scheming Tracy will get pregnant.

It’s also been rumoured that Tracy will lose the baby when Becky attacks her. It’s speculated that that will be the exit storyline for Becky, because Kat Kelly is of course leaving the show at the end of the year.

In other Corrie news, The Sun today reveals that Tina McIntyre (Michelle Keegan) is set for a romance with the Street’s GP, Dr Matt Carter (Oliver Mellor).

However, it seems that despite looking like a promising relationship at first, “skeletons emerge from the medic’s cupboard” which are likely to threaten the budding romance.

We’ll see Tina and Matt hook up over the coming weeks as Tina tries to get over her upset over being ditched by Graeme.

More Corrie news soon!

Britain’s Got Talent star Nathan Wyburn has revealed his own unique tribute to the Queen on her 85th birthday, which is a portrait of Her Majesty made entirely out of marmite and toast!

Here’s what The Sun reports…

BRITAIN’S Got Talent’s Nathan Wyburn marked the Queen’s official 85th birthday – by making her Bread of State.

Nathan, who made the semi-final of the ITV1 show with his toast and Marmite portraits, used ten jars of the spread and 140 slices of bread for this weekend’s tribute.

It took the 21-year-old, of Ebbw Vale, South Wales, two hours to make it – and probably a lot longer to eat it.

As a fan of HBO’s True Blood, I’m lucky enough to get emails about the show from the network, and today, I had an awesome little Facebook app sent to me which enables you to put yourself and your friends right into the action!

Called ‘Immortalize Yourself’, all you need to do to star in True Blood is ‘Like’ their Facebook page – which you can go to by clicking here – then start your video.

You can make as many as you wish, putting different friends into different parts of the scenes.

Give it a go! It’s absolutely addictive!

Ooo I love a good spoiler, and today, The Daily Star reveals a new Corrie spoiler…

The paper reports that hot on the heels of the Street reeling over John Stape’s nutty antics, Gary Windass – who’s played by Mikey North – is set for another breakdown, but this time, it’s his girlfriend Izzy Armstrong who’s going to cop the brunt of it!

Here’s what the paper has to say…

DISABLED Izzy Armstrong is heading for a double dose of turmoil.

First, Izzy (Cherylee Houston, 35) is mugged at a cashpoint by a gang of yobs, who smash her wheelchair. Then paranoid boyfriend Gary Windass (Mikey North, 24) flips and refuses to get the chair fixed – so she becomes a prisoner in her home.

We can reveal that she’s eventually rescued by her dad Owen (Ian Puleston-Davies, 51) when he hears her screams.

Our mole said: “Gary is having another breakdown and doesn’t see Izzy’s mugging as a random event.

“He thinks someone’s out to kill her and thinks that if he doesn’t get her chair fixed then she can’t go anywhere.

“He’s not doing it out of malice, in his head he thinks he’s protecting her.”

Channel 4’s deputy head of factual entertainment – Liam Humphreys has green lit a much anticipated second series of the smash hit documentary series Big Fat Gypsy Weddings.

The first series, which aired earlier this year, averaged 9.1 million viewers and a 29.4% share over the five episodes.

Firecracker Films are in the early stages of production and have been meeting members of the travelling communities including Irish travellers, English Gypsies and Romany Gypsies to research the 6 x 60 minute films which will air in early 2012.

Following the same documentary style, this new series will retain the core elements that made the first so popular – with the spectacular gypsy and traveller celebrations and rite of passage events remaining at the heart of the programmes.

However, each film will also investigate some of the major themes that arose from the first series – in particular looking at issues around work and money, life on the road, the family, health, prejudice, education and the cultural differences and the relationship between the different travelling communities living in the UK.

Tina Flintoff, Channel 4 Factual Entertainment Commissioning Editor said: ‘Big Fat Gypsy Weddings was a phenomenon. It would have been very easy for us to just commission more of the same but we wanted to enhance the series by adding more journalism and offering an even deeper insight into the gypsy and traveller way of life without losing what makes the show accessible – the weddings, christenings and spectacular celebrations.’

The show’s executive producer Jes Wilkins has added: ‘We are excited about the creative challenge of how to follow up such a successful series. We are extremely grateful to all the gypsies and travellers who have opened up their lives to us over the last two years and we look forward to cultivating more relationships going forward.’

The series will feature some familiar faces, including dressmaker Thelma Madine, Irish Traveller Paddy Doherty and some of the brides from the first series but viewers will also meet a number of new families and follow them over a lengthy period in order to get an even greater understanding of gypsy and traveller life in Britain today.
