Coronation Street Chief Kieran Roberts has told the Radio Times that it wouldn’t be “realistic” if nobody was shown smoking on the show.

He told RT, "While we have a duty not to glamorise the habit, it would be realistic to see nobody smoking - but only a few regulars do."
He added that since the smoking ban in was introduced in 2007, characters such as Deidre Barlow tend to most often smoke outdoors, and we often see her in the back yard of her home or in the smoking shelter at the Rovers.
Roberts added, "Just as in real life, that makes the habit more visible, but it's not actually more prevalent."
And an interesting little factoid – sort of – is that the Rovers was one of the first soap pubs to show its patrons abiding by the new regulations. The things you didn’t know you didn’t know eh?
Moving onto an ex-cast member, Tina O’Brien – who played Sarah Louis Platt – we heard that she’s landed a role in a “raunchy” lesbian drama.

Tina will apparently be seen sharing a kiss with esx-Shameless star Maxine Peake in BBC2's ‘The Scandalous Diaries of Anne Lister’.
Tina told the PA, "I can't wait. It'll be a challenge but it makes no odds whether I'm kissing a man or a woman on screen. It's just a job."
The drama centres on 19th Century heroine Anne Lister, who earned notoriety as “the first modern lesbian” following her same-sex wedding in the early 1800s. The details of her fascinating life were only revealed when her diaries were ‘decoded’ after her death.
Filming is due to start this month at Shibden Hall in Halifax, and it will air early next year.
